Belgian students wishing to pursue their studies in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and the United Kingdom can benefit from health insurance coverage, according to the current European regulations.

 

Coverage

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) enables students to access medically necessary care during their stay, under the same conditions and reimbursement rates as local insured persons.

Under certain conditions, as a student, you can benefit from Mutas assistance abroad during one year of study abroad.

If you study in a country with which Belgium has concluded a health care agreement, you are covered for medically necessary care.

Coverage

A coverage document valid for three months will be issued. If Belgium has an agreement with the country where you intend to study, request a coverage document before departure, allowing you to access medically necessary care during your stay under the same conditions and reimbursement rates as local insured persons.

 

Assistance abroad

Mutas assistance abroad does not apply during your study stay in a country that has a bilateral agreement with Belgium.

Other countries>

If you plan to study in a country other than the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom, or a bilateral country, other guidelines apply.

 

Coverage

You may qualify for possible reimbursement afterward according to the conditions and reimbursement rates in effect in Belgium if :

  • The care is urgent

And

  • You have been hospitalized for at least one night

It is strongly advised to subscribe to private insurance before departure to be prepared for all eventualities.

Mutas assistance abroad does not apply during your study stay in this country.
